What is GTA 6: An Extended Look?

An Extended Look is Rockstar’s first long gameplay presentation for GTA 6. It runs 26 minutes and 49 seconds and premiered on August 27, 2026. Rockstar announced the video on August 6, 2026 through its Newswire. The August 27 follow-up post confirmed the footage came entirely from in-game capture on PlayStation 5.

A Netflix-first premiere is unusual for a game trailer. Rockstar has not explained the arrangement beyond the schedule itself.

What gameplay systems does the Extended Look show?

The video shows on-the-fly switching between Jason and Lucia and a wanted meter that reaches six stars. It also shows cover-based shooting, a weapon wheel, button-prompt struggles in melee, and a dog you can pet or scold. The Verge and GameSpot both reported these details from the footage on August 27, 2026.

The switching is the headline. According to The Verge, one chase has the player as Jason leaning out of a car window to shoot at police while Lucia drives. Moments later the player is Lucia behind the wheel, with Jason and a third character still firing.

The wanted system is the other big reveal. GameSpot reports that the stars go up to six, with icons under them showing which crimes got you noticed. GTA 5 stopped at five.

Other systems are visible in the footage.

Which missions and activities appear in the Extended Look?

Two missions stand out. One is a police chase with both protagonists in one car. The other is a split infiltration where Jason works security on one floor while Lucia sneaks on another. Activities glimpsed include boating, basketball, scuba diving, track racing, weightlifting, kayaking, and parachuting.

The infiltration mission is the clearest look at how the pair operates apart. According to The Verge, Jason is posted as a security detail when enemies storm an upper floor. He fights from cover. Lucia, on a different floor, moves on foot and tries to avoid detection until she is caught in a struggle.

The rest of the runtime is short bursts of free time. The Verge’s screenshots show Jason on a boat and shooting hoops, and Lucia kayaking, lifting weights and at a shooting range. There is a diver underwater, a track race, and a parachute drop. Neither Rockstar nor the outlets we cite say which clips are in Vice City and which are elsewhere in Leonida, so we do not place them.

Was the Extended Look captured on a standard PS5?

Yes. Rockstar’s Newswire states the footage was captured entirely from in-game play on PlayStation 5, and the end card of the video says the same, according to The Verge. There is no PS5 Pro label. So the visuals in the video represent what the base console produces.

This matters for anyone deciding between consoles. The official site says GTA 6 plays best on PS5, and Rockstar chose the standard model for its showcase. Xbox Series X|S footage has not been released.
