What is Grassrivers in GTA 6?

Grassrivers is the swamp of Leonida, the state where GTA 6 takes place. Rockstar’s page describes an old, sprawling mangrove wetland with alligators as the main tourist draw. It then teases that the gators are not the worst thing in the water, and that the swamp hides things nobody has cataloged, without naming any of them.

Rockstar revealed Grassrivers on May 6, 2025, the day of Trailer 2, on the official site’s regional pages. Its tagline there is “Welcome to the Wetlands”, which is about as much as Rockstar says on the record. The five other regions, from Vice City to the Leonida Keys, sit on our Leonida hub.

The rest of the official page reads like a brochure with a warning label, wilderness first and secrets the state would rather tourists did not find.

Where is Grassrivers on the Leonida map?

Rockstar has not released a map, so Grassrivers has no confirmed position. The official text mentions mangroves and wetlands and nothing about direction or neighbors. Mangroves grow in brackish water near a coast, which suggests a low, flooded zone between the sea and the drier interior. That is inference from botany, and Rockstar has stated none of it.

The real Everglades cover the southern tip of Florida, west of Miami and north of the Keys. If Leonida copies Florida’s shape, Grassrivers would land somewhere in that band. Fans have pinned Trailer 2’s swamp shots to spots on homemade maps. None of those placements is official.

What can you do in Grassrivers?

Nothing has been announced. Rockstar’s page for Grassrivers covers scenery and wildlife and stops before any mission, business or activity. Hunting, fishing and off-road trails are confirmed for the game, but Rockstar attaches them to Mount Kalaga National Park, and to no other region. A fan boat ride appears in the gameplay video, and that is the extent of it.

Trailer 2 does show swamp scenery, which fans immediately tagged as Grassrivers. Rockstar has not labeled those shots, so we do not either. What is hiding in the Grassrivers swamp?

Rockstar says the mangroves hold predators worse than alligators and finds stranger than anything on the tourist brochure, and names none of them. That vagueness is the region’s whole pitch. A swamp sold to visitors for its gators, with a dark underside the state does not advertise, is the usual GTA formula applied to a wetland.

The vague wording is clearly intentional. Every other Leonida region gets a concrete detail, a refinery, a boat yard, a dead tourist trade. Grassrivers gets a warning.

The likely reading is that Grassrivers hosts secrets, side content or random encounters that Rockstar wants to keep unspoiled. That is our reading, and Rockstar has announced nothing of the sort. No cult, cryptid or hidden lab has been confirmed, whatever the forums say.

What real place inspired Grassrivers?

The Florida Everglades, by every visible sign, though Rockstar has not confirmed it. Mangroves, alligators, flat sawgrass water and airboats are the Everglades’ postcard. Leonida mirrors Florida across the board, so the match is expected. It stays an observation until Rockstar says it out loud.

Even the name fits. The real Everglades are often called a river of grass, after a 1947 book by Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Grassrivers reads as a direct nod to that phrase, which is as close to a confirmation as Rockstar’s naming habits usually get.

Among the outer regions, Grassrivers is the one built on wilderness with a threat attached. Ambrosia runs on a refinery, Port Gellhorn on decline, and Mount Kalaga on outdoor sport.
