What are the Leonida Keys in GTA 6?

The Leonida Keys are a string of tropical islands in Leonida, the state where GTA 6 is set. Rockstar’s page for the region promises an easy, unflashy life of deck chairs, casual clothes and well-stocked bars. It then warns that the sea just offshore is as dangerous as it is pretty. Two named characters live there.

Rockstar introduced the Keys on May 6, 2025, the day Trailer 2 dropped, under the tagline “Gateway to Paradise”. That is Rockstar’s phrase, and the rest of this page is about what sits behind the postcard. The five other regions are on our Leonida hub.

Of the six regions, the Keys have the strongest link to the plot. Jason lives there and his landlord works there. That makes it the most likely place for your first hours with him.

Where are the Leonida Keys on the map?

Rockstar has not published a map of Leonida, so the Keys have no official position. The name and the official text describe a tropical archipelago, which puts the region offshore. Fans place it at the southern tip of the state, below Vice City, because that is where the Florida Keys sit. That is a reading of the name, and nothing Rockstar has confirmed.

An archipelago means several islands, which implies bridges, causeways or boats to move between them. Rockstar has not said how many islands exist or how you cross from one to the next.

Every fan map you will find online is a reconstruction from trailer frames. Some are careful, none are official. We will update this page the day Rockstar releases the real thing.

Who lives in the Leonida Keys?

Two confirmed characters call the Keys home. Jason Duval, one of the two protagonists, works for the local drug trade there. Brian Heder, a smuggler left over from the islands’ big years, runs a boat yard with his wife Lori. He lets Jason stay on one of his properties without paying rent.

The deal has a price. Jason covers his rent by lending a hand with Brian’s shakedowns around the islands. That is the closest thing to a confirmed Keys activity so far. Cal Hampton, Jason’s friend and another of Brian’s associates, spends his days listening to Coast Guard radio, which hints at a coastal home without naming one.

The Ultimate Edition lists Jason’s Safehouse Vehicles among its bonuses. Rockstar has not said whether that safehouse is the Keys property, so do not assume it.

What can you do in the Leonida Keys?

Nothing official yet. Rockstar has not announced a mission, side job or activity specific to the Keys. The regional page sets a mood, sun, drinks and a low dress code, and stops there. Boats are the obvious draw, given Brian’s boat yard and the trailer footage, but boat gameplay remains unannounced.

What real place inspired the Leonida Keys?

The Florida Keys, almost certainly, though Rockstar has never stated it. The name, the tropical island chain, the bar culture and the smuggling past all match the real archipelago from Key Largo to Key West. Treat the comparison as a well-supported observation rather than a fact.

Brian Heder’s backstory adds weight. Rockstar’s bio frames him as a leftover from the decades when the Keys were a smuggler’s paradise. The real Keys had exactly that reputation in the 1970s and 1980s, which is the era GTA 6 seems happy to wink at.

The Keys also fit a pattern across Leonida, where each region gets a distinct vice and a distinct vibe.
